The villa

The Cerulean is a five-bedroom oceanfront villa on St. Croix’s East End, with a guest cottage twenty steps from the main house.

  • Sleeps twelve
  • Four en-suite bedrooms in the main house, one in the cottage, plus a loft bed
  • Private beach below the pool deck
  • Chef’s kitchen, outdoor kitchen and fire pit

St. Croix keeps a fuller calendar than most visitors expect. There is a carnival at Christmas, a farm fair that fills a field every February, a food festival in April, a mango festival in July, four Friday-night street parties a year in Christiansted, gallery walks, sunset concerts on the Frederiksted waterfront, a boat parade, regattas, open-water swims, and a run of public holidays the mainland does not keep. This guide puts all of it in one place, month by month, from October 2026 through December 2027, with a link to each event's own page so you can check the latest before you book. Dates the organizers have published are given as fixed. Dates that follow a yearly pattern but have not been announced yet are marked as expected, so you know which ones to confirm. The base for every plan here is The Cerulean, a five-bedroom oceanfront villa on the East End, about fifteen to twenty minutes from Christiansted and forty-five to fifty from Frederiksted, but the calendar works wherever you stay.

How the island's year runs

The year on St. Croix has three seasons that matter to a visitor, and they shape the events as much as the weather does. Winter, from about mid-December to April, is high season. The trade winds are steady, the air is drier, cruise ships call at Frederiksted several times a week, and most of the big public events fall in these months: the Crucian Christmas Festival, Agrifest, the St. Patrick's Day parade, the spring regattas and Taste of St. Croix. Festival weekends fill first, so book flights, the villa and a rental car early for these months.

Summer, from May to August, is the season for family trips and long beach days. The water is warm and often calm in the mornings, mainland schools are out, and the island's own summer is in full swing: Emancipation Day on July 3 runs straight into the Fourth of July, the botanical garden holds its mango festival, and island families fill the beaches on weekends.

Fall, from September to early December, is the island's own season. The calendar turns to local holidays and the build-up to Christmas: Friendship Day fills the fairgrounds in October, Liberty Day and the Veterans Day parade open November, Art Thursday and Rhythms at Sunset bring the evenings back to Christiansted and Frederiksted, and the Coral Reef Swim, Serenade on Strand Street and the Holiday Jump Up lead into December. Outside the holiday weekends the beaches are quiet, a table at a favorite restaurant is easier to book, and the sea is often calm in the mornings. If your dates are flexible, November, early December, May and June give you good weather, a run of events and room to spread out. The calendar below gathers the main dates of the next fifteen months; enter your arrival and departure and it lights up what falls inside your stay.

October 2026

October is a month of the island's own celebrations. The largest is Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day, a legal holiday on the second Monday of October, which this year falls on October 12. It honors St. Croix's large Puerto Rican community, and the celebration has grown into a village of several nights at the agricultural fairgrounds at Estate Lower Love, in the middle of the island, with Latin and local bands, Puerto Rican and Crucian food stalls and fair rides. It is listed for October 8 to 12, with music each night from Friday the 9th. In past years it was free to walk in, with food, drinks and ride tickets paid as you go. Early evening suits families, and it gets louder toward midnight. The Department of Tourism's Friendship Day page carries the latest. On the holiday itself, the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts in Frederiksted holds a free afternoon of artist talks and salsa from 3 to 6 pm, for ages 16 and up, with registration on the museum's site.

Food lovers should look at the week of October 12 to 18 at Sejah Farm, near Frederiksted. Bush Cook Chef Cook sets traditional bush cooks, working over wood fires and coal pots with the island's own produce and meat, against trained chefs. Thursday, October 15, is a free community day with a cook-off, the main competition runs all day on Saturday the 17th, and a six-course farm-to-table dinner closes the week on Sunday the 18th. The dinner is ticketed, the tickets are not refundable, and it is likely to sell out; they are on the Bush Cook Chef Cook Eventbrite page.

The rest of the month is a run of smaller events that make a good week. The Crucian Christmas Festival holds its first ticketed show, the Princess Pageant presentation, on Sunday, October 18. The St. Croix Yacht Club's Chandler Memorial Regatta brings small-boat racing to Teague Bay, a few minutes from the villa, from October 23 to 25; you can watch from the shore. And the Children's Museum of St. Croix holds Jumbies at the Museum, a family day built around the moko jumbies, the island's costumed stilt dancers, on Saturday, October 24, from 11 am to 4 pm.

Halloween falls on a Saturday. Our Town Frederiksted runs a trick-or-treat block party from 5 to 8 pm, starting at King and Hill Streets, with shops along King and Strand Streets handing out treats; see its events page. The East End Marine Park's Trunk or Treat is listed for the same evening from 5:30, and the grown-up parties follow later, among them a costume night at Sion Farm Distillery and the annual party at Shupe's on the Christiansted boardwalk. October 31 is also the first day of United's Saturday nonstop from Newark, the only nonstop between St. Croix and the New York area, as the Department of Tourism announced in June.

Mon Oct 12Friendship Day

For the bioluminescent bay at Salt River, the darkest evenings this month run from about October 8 to 13, around the new moon of October 10. The full moon on the night of October 25 to 26 is the time to skip it. The bio bay guide explains how the tours work.

November 2026

November opens with Liberty Day on Sunday the 1st, also called D. Hamilton Jackson Day. It marks November 1, 1915, when David Hamilton Jackson published The Herald, the first newspaper in the Danish West Indies free of government control, and went on to found the St. Croix Labour Union. The traditional celebration at Grove Place, in the middle of the island, has served free roast beef and bread, which is why some people call it Bull and Bread Day. The long-time organizer handed it to a new committee from 2025, and no 2026 details had been published when we checked; the VI Consortium covered the handover. The same day, mainland clocks fall back an hour. St. Croix stays on Atlantic Standard Time all year, so from November 1 the island is one hour ahead of New York.

The first half of the month belongs to the water. The International Sunfish Class holds its 2026 world championships in Christiansted, based at the hotel on Protestant Cay and hosted by the St. Croix Yacht Club: youth, masters and women's racing November 6 to 8, and the open worlds November 10 to 13. Racing is by invitation, but the boardwalk gives a free view of the fleets going out. On Sunday, November 8, the 30th St. Croix Coral Reef Swim sends swimmers 5 miles from Buck Island to the beach at The Buccaneer, with shorter races of 2.4 miles and 1 mile; entry was listed from about $100, and spectators can watch the finish. The St. Croix Hiking Association leads a guided rainy-season hike at Caledonia on Saturday, November 14, with the meeting place posted on its calendar about a week ahead.

Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, is a legal holiday with a morning parade. In 2025 it started at 9 am at King and Market Streets in Christiansted; the parade has moved between the two towns in recent years, so look for the 2026 route a few days ahead. It is also a fee-free day at National Park Service sites for U.S. citizens and residents, which covers Fort Christiansvaern, as the park service's fee-free page explains.

The Christiansted season starts in earnest after that. Art Thursday, the evening gallery walk, opens its 2026-27 season on November 19 from 5 to 8 pm; it is free, and the Art Thursday listing has the season's dates. On Saturday, November 21, from noon to 6 pm, Serenade on Strand Street fills downtown with quelbe music from Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights, moko jumbies, dancers and a holiday market with coquito and gifts made on the island; see its listing.

Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26. Fort Christiansvaern closes for the day, and restaurants that open usually run set menus, so book early; our Thanksgiving on St. Croix story covers the week in detail. The next night, Friday, November 27, is the Holiday Jump Up in Christiansted, from 6 to 10 pm. Police close King, Company and Queen Cross Streets to cars from about 4 pm, and cars left there are ticketed and towed, so park outside the center and walk in. It is free, with moko jumbies, steel pan and late shopping; the Holiday Jump Up listing and our Jump Up guide cover the rest. On Sunday, November 29, the Virgin Islands Triathlon Federation holds the Beauty and the Beast Triathlon at Cramer's Park on the East End, close to the villa; the federation's events page lists it, and East End Road is slow that morning.

December 2026, before Christmas

December is the busiest month on the island's calendar, and it starts on the first weekend. On Friday, December 4, the St. George Village Botanical Garden near Frederiksted opens its Garden of Lights with an adults-only cocktail walk from 6 to 10 pm, with steel pan, small plates and a silent auction; tickets were $75 early and $85 from November 1, on the cocktail walk's Eventbrite page. After that the garden opens for light viewing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from 6 to 10 pm until January 3, with general admission listed from about $10; this is the evening to bring children. The same Friday at 6 pm, the St. Croix Foundation holds Wine in the Warehouse, its food and wine night, in an aviation hangar at the airport.

On Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, the 10th Crucian Coconut Festival takes over the old Bethlehem sugar factory site in the middle of the island: coconut demonstrations, a Taste of Coconut competition on Saturday, the jelly-scoop contest on Sunday, art, crafts, moko jumbies and steel pan. On Sunday morning the Reindeer Run half marathon and 5K go out and back along the North Shore Road from Cane Bay, Santa hats encouraged; expect delays on that road until mid-morning.

The weekend after is the one locals call the start of Christmas. If the pattern of recent years holds, a community group lights the trees in Limpricht Park on King Street in Christiansted on the Friday, December 11, with an inkberry tree in the old island style, quelbe and quadrille dancers; the VI Consortium's account of the 2024 weekend shows how it runs. On Saturday, December 12, the Christmas Boat Parade, held since 1998, sends fifteen to twenty boats covered in lights and inflatables from Gallows Bay past Fort Christiansvaern and along the Christiansted boardwalk, and fireworks follow. It is free and draws thousands. Claim a spot on the boardwalk or near the fort by late afternoon and eat dinner in town; the Boat Parade listing has the times as they firm up.

The night after the parade brings the best meteor shower of the year in the best conditions it will have for a while. The Geminids peak in the early hours of Monday, December 14, with up to about 120 meteors an hour under a dark sky, and the new moon of December 8 keeps that sky dark. The constellation Gemini is well up by 10 pm and highest around 2 am. The East End, away from town lights, is one of the darkest parts of the island, and the EarthSky Geminid guide has the viewing details.

The festival's own season runs through the month: the Prince and Princess Pageant on Saturday, December 5, the Junior Calypso Show on the 6th, the Miss St. Croix Pageant on Sunday the 13th, the Calypso Monarch competition on Friday the 18th, which is the one to pick for local music and sharp social commentary, and Madras Mas on Sunday the 20th. Venues and ticket prices are announced close to each show, on the Department of Tourism's festival page. Art Thursday returns on December 17, and on Saturday, December 19, from noon, La Reine Chicken Shack holds the Coquito Festival, a free contest for the best coquito, the coconut and rum holiday drink, with music, food and Santa for the children. Christmas Day is Friday, December 25; banks, government offices, Fort Christiansvaern and many shops close, so stock the kitchen the day before. Our Christmas and New Year's story covers the holiday at the villa.

The Crucian Christmas Festival, 2026-27

St. Croix holds its carnival at Christmas, and the Crucian Christmas Festival, organized in its current form since 1952, is the largest public event of the year. The 74th festival's main week runs from December 26 to January 2, and this year it is in Frederiksted, after the 2025-26 parades were held in Christiansted. The Festival Village, with food booths and a stage for nightly concerts in downtown Frederiksted, opens on Christmas Second Day, Saturday, December 26, with a cultural night of Virgin Islands groups. Music in the Village has been free in past years, with food and drink paid as you go. Sunday the 27th brings boat races off the Frederiksted waterfront, Tuesday the 29th is Latin night, and Wednesday the 30th is the food fair, the best single day to taste Crucian cooking, along with reggae night in the Village.

December 31 is the longest day of the festival. J'ouvert starts before dawn, about 4 am as listed, and moves along King Street behind music trucks; wear old clothes and closed shoes and expect to get sweaty. That night the Village holds the Old Year's Night celebration, where white is the custom. On New Year's Day the Children's Parade goes down King Street, and on Saturday, January 2, the Adults' Parade of troupes in feathers and sequins runs for hours before fireworks close the festival. For the parades, arrive early with a chair, water and shade, and expect road closures and very little parking around Frederiksted all week. A taxi both ways is worth it.

The Department of Tourism publishes the schedule on its Crucian Christmas Festival page, and our festival guide explains the traditions behind it, from calypso to the moko jumbies and the quelbe bands covered in the moko jumbie and quelbe guide. The villa sits at the far end of the island from the Village, about fifty minutes by road, which suits a family that wants a night of the festival and a quiet morning after it. On New Year's morning, before the Children's Parade, you can watch the year's first sunrise from Point Udall, about ten minutes from the villa and the easternmost point of the United States, where the sun reaches U.S. soil first this side of the date line; the Point Udall guide and our story on sunrise at Point Udall explain how to time it.

January and February 2027

The new year starts in the middle of the festival, with the Children's Parade on January 1 and the Adults' Parade on January 2, and the Christmas season officially ends on Three Kings Day, Wednesday, January 6, a legal holiday. The Garden of Lights closes after its last evening on January 3. January is also the peak of the cruise season, with about fifteen ship calls at Frederiksted, and the start of whale season, when humpbacks pass through the Virgin Islands on their way south. On Sunday, January 17, the St. Croix Scenic 50, an ultra run with a relay option, is listed to start at 6 am. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 18, and Art Thursday returns to Christiansted on January 21. The new moon of January 7 gives the bio bay a dark first week, and the Quadrantid meteors peak before dawn on January 4, though they rise low from this latitude.

February is the island's other big month, and its centerpiece is Agrifest, the Virgin Islands Agriculture and Food Fair, held every year over Presidents' Day weekend at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex at Estate Lower Love, in the middle of the island. Presidents' Day 2027 is Monday, February 15, and the 55th fair is listed for Saturday to Monday, February 13 to 15, 2027. Expect three days of Senepol cattle and St. Croix sheep, farm and garden stalls, seedlings, kallaloo, pates and live music. In 2026 the gates opened from 9 am to 6 pm and admission was $8 for adults, $5 for children and $6 for seniors; vendors inside are mostly cash only. The Department of Agriculture and the University of the Virgin Islands usually confirm hours and prices a few weeks ahead, and the Agrifest listing carries them as they come. Our Agrifest guide explains what to eat and how to time the day.

The rest of February is busy too. Mardi Croix, the north shore's own Mardi Gras, sends a costumed parade from La Vallee to just past Cane Bay Beach, with food and craft booths; it was held on Saturday, February 7, in 2026, and the Mardi Croix listing will carry the 2027 date once it is set. Christiansted's first Jump Up of the year falls on a Friday in early or mid February, February 6 in 2026 and February 14 in 2025. Art Thursday is February 18, and the St. Croix Orchid Society has held its show on the last weekend of February, which would be February 27 and 28. The St. Croix Landmarks Society opens private historic homes for its annual house tours in late February and early March; in 2025 the Frederiksted tour met at Estate Whim on February 25 and the mid-island tour on March 4, at $35 a person, as the house tour page shows. February and March are the likeliest months to see whales offshore, and on February 20, a faint lunar eclipse shades the rising moon in the early evening.

March and April 2027

Christiansted has held a St. Patrick's Day parade since 1969, and it draws a big crowd in green. The 2026 parade, the 55th, stepped off at 11 am on Saturday, March 14, from Fort Christiansvaern, up Company Street and back down King Street, with floats, troupes and bands. The parade is held on a Saturday near March 17; in 2027, when St. Patrick's Day falls on a Wednesday, that means Saturday, March 13, or Saturday, March 20. The St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee announces the date. Art Thursday is March 18, and Rhythms at Sunset in Frederiksted is listed for March 19.

Easter comes early in 2027, and the Virgin Islands keep three days of it as legal holidays: Holy Thursday, March 25, Good Friday, March 26, and Easter Monday, March 29, with Easter Sunday on March 28. Easter weekend is when many island families camp at the public beaches, which fill with tents, grills and music over the long weekend. Transfer Day follows on Wednesday, March 31, the 110th anniversary of the day in 1917 when the Danish West Indies passed from Denmark to the United States. Our spring break and Easter story covers the season in detail, from school breaks to the churches.

April is quieter. The St. Croix Yacht Club has run an International Regatta at Teague Bay in recent springs, and posts its races on its regattas page. Art Thursday is April 15 and Rhythms at Sunset April 16. Leatherback nesting is under way at Sandy Point, and the refuge beach closes to the public in April for the nesting season. Taste of St. Croix, the St. Croix Foundation's evening of the island's chefs and restaurants, was held in mid-April for most of its history but moved to June in 2026, at the Divi Carina Bay; the organizers had not announced the 2027 date, so watch the Taste of St. Croix listing.

For a trip to a neighboring island, St. Thomas holds the territory's other carnival in late April and early May, with pageants, a Calypso Monarch, a food fair, boat races, J'ouvert and a parade through Charlotte Amalie. The 2026 carnival ran from April 26 to May 2, as the Department of Tourism announced in January 2026, and the 2027 dates are usually published early in the year. Sailors can also look at the St. Thomas International Regatta, set for April 8 to 11, 2027, as Caribbean Sailing reported. St. Thomas is a short flight or seaplane hop from St. Croix.

May and June 2027

May is one of the best months to visit for good weather and few crowds, and it has a few fixed points. The Eta Aquariid meteors peak before dawn on May 6, under a new moon, which makes them one of the better showers of the year from the tropics. Art Thursday holds the last walk of its season on May 20, the night of a seasonal blue moon. Christiansted's summer Jump Up is held on the last Friday of May, May 29 in 2026, as the kickoff of summer; that points to Friday, May 28, 2027, announced a few weeks ahead on the Jump Up listing. Memorial Day is Monday, May 31. The cruise season tapers off to a handful of calls a month, and leatherbacks are at their nesting peak at Sandy Point.

June has a full island calendar. Early June brings St. Croix Pride, whose 2026 parade was held in Christiansted on Saturday, June 6, with events through the month, and the Women's Coalition of St. Croix holds its long-running Women's Race in Frederiksted in June; both 2027 dates were still to come when we checked, and the GoToStCroix June calendar lists them as they are set. Juneteenth falls on Saturday, June 19; the governor has closed government offices for it in recent years, and in 2027 the closure is likely to fall on Friday, June 18. Father's Day is Sunday, June 20, the same day the territory observes Organic Act Day. On St. John, the summer festival now called the St. John Celebration begins in mid-June and builds to the Fourth of July; in 2026 it ran from June 14 to July 4. If Taste of St. Croix stays in June, as it was in 2026, it will be the month's main food event on the island.

Early summer is when families come, for the beaches, the long days and the warm, calm water in the mornings. Our family summer on St. Croix story covers the season, and the weather by month guide gives the numbers for every month of the year.

July 2027

July opens with the two holidays that matter most in Frederiksted. Saturday, July 3, 2027, is Emancipation Day, the 179th anniversary of July 3, 1848, when, after enslaved people near Frederiksted rose up the night before, Governor-General Peter von Scholten declared every enslaved person in the Danish West Indies free. The leaders of the uprising were John Gottlieb, known as General Buddhoe, and Martin King. The day begins before dawn with the Fort-to-Fort Walk to Freedom, about 15 miles from Fort Christiansvaern in Christiansted to Fort Frederik in Frederiksted, which has started at 3:30 am in recent years. Ceremonies and cultural programs follow in Frederiksted around the fort and Buddhoe Park, and in recent years the evening has ended with a quelbe procession along Strand Street led by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights. Fort Frederik itself is in a three-year restoration that began around January 2026, so check whether the fort museum is open before you plan a visit. The GoToStCroix July calendar lists the walk and the evening events as they are announced, and our guide to Emancipation and Fort Frederik tells the full story.

The Fourth of July is Sunday. Frederiksted's waterfront fills from about 3 pm with music and street vendors, and fireworks go up from near the pier at about 8 pm. Police close downtown streets from about 2 pm to midnight, so come early and bring a beach chair; the Independence Day fireworks listing has the latest. The same day, St. John ends its summer festival, now called the St. John Celebration, with a parade and fireworks over Cruz Bay; it is a full-day trip from St. Croix by air or seaplane to St. Thomas and the ferry across, so book early. The 2026 announcement shows the shape of it, and our St. Croix and St. Thomas comparison covers getting between the islands. In 2021, the last year with the same calendar, the territory gave government workers Monday, July 5, off for both holidays, and the same is likely in 2027 once the governor confirms it.

The next weekend is for fruit. The Mango Melee and Tropical Fruit Festival at the St. George Village Botanical Garden is the garden's largest fundraiser, with more than a hundred food and craft vendors, a mango cooking contest, tastings, mango-eating contests for adults and children, and moko jumbies. The 30th was on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm, and the 2027 festival is expected on Sunday, July 11; admission in 2025 was $10 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12. Parking spills onto the road, so arrive early, and bring water and a hat. The Mango Melee listing and the garden's events page will carry the confirmed date.

Mangoes of many kinds on a banana leaf

The rest of July belongs to the beaches and the night sky. The Southern Delta Aquariid meteors peak around July 29 to 31 with little moonlight, and the new moon on Emancipation Day night makes the first week of July one of the best of the summer for the bio bay. Christiansted held a summer Jump Up on July 11 in 2025 and moved it to late May in 2026, so check the listing before you plan around a July edition.

August and September 2027

Late summer is turtle season and meteor season, and the island is at its most relaxed, with warm water, quiet beaches and dark skies over the East End. The Perseid meteor shower peaks on the night of August 12 to 13, with rates of up to about 110 an hour under ideal skies; in 2027 a bright moon sets at about 2:45 am, and the dark hours from then until dawn are the time to watch. The total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027, which crosses Spain and North Africa, is not visible from St. Croix at all, as NASA's eclipse map shows. A faint penumbral lunar eclipse in the early hours of August 17 is technically visible, but the shading is so slight that most people will not notice it.

On the beaches, this is hawksbill and green turtle season. Hawksbills nest across the Virgin Islands with a peak from about July to October, green turtles peak at Sandy Point from August to October, and leatherback hatchlings are still coming out of the sand into August. You may see tracks or marked nests on East End and west end beaches; keep lights off on the beach at night and never touch a nest. Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge is closed to the public from April through August for the leatherbacks and reopens for weekend visits after that; the refuge's visitor page has the current rule, and our sea turtle guide covers where and how to look.

Labor Day is Monday, September 6, and a Royal Caribbean ship is scheduled into Frederiksted that day, so the pier and Strand Street will be livelier than usual for September. The St. Croix Yacht Club usually holds a one-day Back to School Regatta for dinghies at Teague Bay around the start of September, and posts its races on its regattas page. The season for tropical weather runs June through November, and our hurricane season guide covers what to know.

October and November 2027

October 1 is Contract Day. On that date in 1878, when the post-emancipation labor laws let plantation workers change their contracts only once a year, workers on the west end rose against those conditions, much of Frederiksted burned, and the uprising became known as the Fireburn. Its leaders included three women remembered as the Fireburn Queens: Mary Thomas, Agnes Salomon and Mathilda McBean. October 1, 2027, a Friday, is the 149th anniversary. Offices stay open, since it is not a legal holiday. The governor issues a proclamation each year, as in the October 2025 proclamations, and local groups hold a commemoration in Frederiksted. It is a day for history more than celebration; our history of St. Croix gives the background.

The fishing year has a fixture in early October: the Golden Hook Fishing Club's men-against-women tournament, held October 3 to 5 in 2026, with dates for 2027 to be announced on the GoToStCroix October calendar. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day is Monday, October 11, 2027, the 63rd, and the village at the fairgrounds is expected over the days before it, about October 7 to 11. Sejah Farm's Bush Cook Chef Cook is expected again in mid to late October, with the dates on the farm's Bush Cook Chef Cook page. Halloween is a Sunday in 2027, so the Frederiksted block party may move to Saturday, October 30.

November 2027 follows the shape of November 2026, with every holiday on a weekday. Liberty Day is Monday, November 1, and Veterans Day is Thursday, November 11. The Coral Reef Swim, held on the second Sunday of November, is expected on November 14. Art Thursday should open its 2027-28 season on November 18, and Rhythms at Sunset falls on the third Friday, November 19. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 25; in 2021, a year with the same calendar, government offices also closed on the Friday. The Holiday Jump Up in Christiansted has been held on the Friday after Thanksgiving three years running, so expect it on Friday, November 26, from 6 to 10 pm, and the Beauty and the Beast Triathlon at Cramer's Park usually follows on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

December 2027

December 2027 should look much like December 2026, a week or so earlier in the month. The Garden of Lights at the botanical garden is expected to open on Friday, December 3, and run on weekend evenings into early January; the Crucian Coconut Festival is held on a weekend in late November or early December; and the Reindeer Run at Cane Bay is an early-December Sunday. The Christmas Boat Parade has published its own future dates, and the 2027 parade is Saturday, December 11, in Christiansted harbor. If the pattern holds, the Limpricht Park tree lighting is the Friday before, December 10. Art Thursday falls on December 16, and Rhythms at Sunset on December 17.

The sky is less helpful this year: the Geminids peak on the night of December 13 to 14, right on top of a full moon, so expect few meteors. Christmas Day is a Saturday and Christmas Second Day a Sunday. In 2021, the last year with this calendar, government offices also closed on Friday, December 24, Monday, December 27 and Friday, December 31, and the governor's 2027 schedule is likely to be similar.

The 75th Crucian Christmas Festival will run from the end of December into the new year. The Division of Festivals usually announces the dates in mid-September, so the 2027-28 schedule should be out by then on the festival page. Going by recent years, expect the Festival Village to open on or about Sunday, December 26, 2027, with J'ouvert and the food fair around New Year's Eve and the two parades on the Friday and Saturday closest after New Year's Day; do not book flights around the parade days until they are announced. Three Kings Day, Thursday, January 6, 2028, ends the season, and if you are still on the island on January 26, 2028, a partial solar eclipse covering about a third of the sun will be visible in the late morning.

Every week and every month

Between the big events, a set of regular evenings gives almost any week something to do. In Christiansted, Art Thursday runs on the third Thursday of each month from November through May, 5 to 8 pm, when galleries, jewelry studios and shops stay open late with artists on hand. The 2026-27 dates are November 19 and December 17, 2026, and January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15 and May 20, 2027; the Art Thursday page keeps the list. Christiansted's Jump Up comes about four times a year, always a Friday night, in February, late May, sometimes July, and the Friday after Thanksgiving.

In Frederiksted, Rhythms at Sunset brings free live music, dance, food and craft vendors to Verne I. Richards Veterans Memorial Park on Strand Street, just south of the pier, on the third Friday of the month from 6 to 9 pm in season. It began in October 2024 in the slot the old Sunset Jazz series used to fill; Sunset Jazz itself has ended, so look for Rhythms at Sunset on its listing. The Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts on Strand Street holds Free Flow Friday evenings of art-making and music, posted one by one on its calendar. A new monthly series, Sunset Sounds at Loops Beach, plays reggae, Caribbean music and jazz from 5 to 7 pm on one Sunday a month, with October 11, November 8 and December 13, 2026, and January 10, 2027 listed on its event page.

At the fort in Christiansted, the National Park Service runs Sunday Funday at the Fort on the second and fourth Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm, with crafts, stories and music on the grounds of Fort Christiansvaern. The 2026 dates are October 11 and 25, November 8 and 22, and December 13 and 27; the fort's entrance fee is $10 for adults, with children under 16 free, and the ticket covers three days. See the Sunday Funday page and our Christiansted guide.

For food, the Saturday morning market at La Reine, on Centerline Road in the middle of the island, starts early and is mostly sold out by about 11 am. Sejah Farm's stand near Frederiksted lists weekday hours of 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 7 am. ARTfarm on the South Shore Road opens for an hour or so on two or three days a week when it has a harvest. The Department of Tourism's farmers market guide lists the rest, and our groceries and provisioning page covers stocking the villa.

Cruise ships shape the west end too. The Port Authority's schedule for October 2026 through September 2027 lists 98 calls at the Frederiksted pier, most of them between November and February, when Royal Caribbean ships call on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On ship days Frederiksted's shops, bars and nearest beaches are busier from mid-morning to late afternoon, and Estate Whim Museum opens extra hours. If you want a quiet west end day, check the Port Authority's ship schedule and pick a day with no ship.

Turtles, whales and the bioluminescent bay

The island's wildlife keeps a calendar of its own, and a few dates are worth planning around. Leatherback turtles, the largest sea turtles, nest at Sandy Point on the west end mostly from March to July, at night; Sandy Point is the largest leatherback nesting beach in the United States, and the refuge closes the beach to the public from April through August to protect the nests. Hawksbills nest all year with a summer and fall peak, and green turtles peak from August to October. Jack and Isaac Bay on the East End, a hike from the villa's side of the island, is St. Croix's busiest green and hawksbill nesting beach. Report an injured or stranded turtle to the STAR hotline at 340-690-0474.

Humpback whales pass through the Virgin Islands from about January to April on their way to and from their calving grounds near the Dominican Republic, with February and March the likeliest months. Sightings from shore on St. Croix are a matter of luck, but breaching whales are seen some winters, including near Buck Island. The NOAA Fisheries humpback page explains the migration, and boats are asked to stay at least 100 yards away.

The bioluminescent bay at Salt River glows when the water is disturbed, from a plankton that lights up blue; the glow is easiest to see on dark nights, and a bright moon washes it out. The best evenings run from about the last-quarter moon until two or three nights after the new moon. Guided kayak tours leave from Salt River Marina; one outfitter listed a two-hour tour at about $55 an adult, ages 8 and up. The table gives the new moons for the next fifteen months from the U.S. Naval Observatory.

Meteor showers and eclipses

St. Croix sits about 18 degrees north of the equator, with no daylight saving time and dark skies away from the two towns, and the East End is one of its darkest corners. Meteor showers are best after midnight, and the moon decides most of the year's good nights. Bring a lounge chair or a towel, bug spray and a light layer for the breeze, and give your eyes twenty minutes to adjust.

The rates in the guides assume a perfectly dark sky, so expect fewer meteors than the headline numbers. The American Meteor Society calendar keeps the details. For eclipses, 2027 is a quiet year from St. Croix: neither solar eclipse is visible from the Virgin Islands, and the year's lunar eclipses are faint penumbral ones. The faint lunar eclipse of February 20, 2027, is the most noticeable, with the moon low in the east after it rises at about 6:15 pm and the deepest shading at about 7:15 pm. The next solar eclipse anyone on St. Croix can see is the partial one on January 26, 2028.

Public holidays and what closes

The U.S. Virgin Islands keep the federal holidays plus several of their own, set out in the territory's code. On a legal holiday, banks, the post office and government offices close; most restaurants, shops, beach bars and tour operators stay open, except on Christmas Day and, for some, Thanksgiving. The National Park Service closes Fort Christiansvaern on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. For the rest of 2026, the holidays are Friendship Day on October 12, Liberty Day on November 1, Veterans Day on November 11, Thanksgiving on November 26, and Christmas Day and Christmas Second Day on December 25 and 26.

Juneteenth has been given as a day off by the governor in recent years, though we could not confirm that it has been added to the code, and a few older observances, Organic Act Day in June among them, are kept on Sundays rather than as days off. The Office Holidays list for 2027 follows the code, and the governor's office announces the observed days as each holiday approaches.

Flights for the busy weeks

The weeks with the biggest events are also the weeks when the most nonstop flights run. As scheduled when we checked: American flies from Miami every day; United's Saturday nonstop from Newark starts on October 31, 2026; American's Charlotte flight runs daily from December 17; Delta's Atlanta flight runs daily from December 19; and American's Saturday nonstop from Chicago O'Hare flies from December 19 to January 2, pauses, and returns from February 13 to April 3, 2027. The winter flights from Charlotte, Atlanta and Chicago are seasonal, so for a summer event like Emancipation Day or the Mango Melee, plan on Miami, Newark or a connection through San Juan.

For the Christmas festival and Agrifest weekend, book flights as soon as the villa is confirmed, because the Saturdays either side of the holidays fill early. Our getting here page keeps the routes current, with city pages for New York, Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago and Miami. U.S. citizens do not need a passport to visit, as the no-passport guide explains, which makes a long weekend for a single event easy to arrange.

Planning a stay around an event

The big events change how the island works for a few days, and a little planning keeps them easy. Start with the car. There is no Uber on St. Croix, the villa is about 35 to 40 minutes from the airport, and the beaches, towns and festival grounds are spread along a coast road with almost no bus service, so you will want a rental from the day you land. Book it when you book the villa; in winter, and on the Christmas festival and Agrifest weekends, cars sell out. Most agencies require drivers to be 25, and as of 2026 an airport rental runs roughly $60 to $100 a day, more for a Jeep. The Virgin Islands keep to the left in ordinary American cars, and the driving guide covers the rest.

Next, the clock. Most events start later than the printed time and run longer. Street events like Jump Up and the Festival Village fill up after dark, parades take hours to pass a given corner, and J'ouvert starts before dawn. Plan one event a day and leave the rest of the day loose. For a parade, arrive early, bring something to sit on and pick a spot with shade.

Then cash and sun. Food and craft vendors at fairs, parades and the Village are often cash only, so bring small bills. Midday sun at an outdoor fair is strong even in February, and a hat, water and reef-safe sunscreen matter more than anything else you carry. Light, breathable clothes work for every event in this guide, and white is the custom for Old Year's Night.

Finally, the drive home. The East End is quiet and dark at night, and the roads back from Frederiksted and Christiansted are narrow in places. If the evening includes rum, book a taxi both ways or choose a driver before you leave the villa, and arrange the return pickup when you are dropped off. The packing guide and the checklist below cover the rest.

A base for the festival weeks

A big event is more fun with a quiet place to come back to, and the East End is the quiet end of the island. The Cerulean sleeps twelve, in four en-suite bedrooms in the main house, one in the guest cottage and a loft bed, with a private beach below the pool deck. That makes it a natural base for a family or a group of friends who want to catch the Boat Parade one night, a festival parade another and spend the days in between at the pool. Point Udall, for the first sunrise of the year, is about ten minutes away, and so is Cramer's Park, where the triathlon is held.

For a group, the villa's chef's kitchen and outdoor kitchen make it easy to bring the island's food home: a coquito tasting before the Coquito Festival, a breakfast before J'ouvert, or a dinner on the terrace after a day at Agrifest. If you would rather not cook, the private chefs and caterers in our directory cook at the villa, and the concierge page explains what the villa managers can arrange. Our guide to celebrations at the villa covers birthdays, reunions and milestone trips, and the best time to visit guide weighs the seasons against each other if your dates are still open.

Questions people ask

What is the biggest event on St. Croix?

The Crucian Christmas Festival, the island's carnival, which St. Croix holds at Christmas rather than before Lent. In 2026-27 its pageants and calypso shows run through December, the Festival Village opens in Frederiksted on December 26, J'ouvert and the Old Year's Night celebration are on December 31, and the Children's and Adults' Parades are on January 1 and 2, 2027. Village concerts have been free in past years.

When is Jump Up in Christiansted?

About four times a year, always on a Friday night from 6 to 10 pm in downtown Christiansted, usually in February, late May, sometimes July, and on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The next is the Holiday Jump Up on Friday, November 27, 2026. It is free. Streets close to cars from about 4 pm, so park outside the center and walk in.

When is Agrifest 2027?

Agrifest, the Virgin Islands Agriculture and Food Fair, is held every year over Presidents' Day weekend at Estate Lower Love, in the middle of St. Croix. Presidents' Day 2027 is Monday, February 15, and the fair is listed for February 13 to 15, 2027. In 2026 it ran from 9 am to 6 pm daily, with admission of $8 for adults, $5 for children and $6 for seniors. Confirm hours and prices closer to the date.

When is Taste of St. Croix 2027?

Not announced yet. Taste of St. Croix, the St. Croix Foundation's evening of the island's chefs and restaurants, was held in mid-April for most of its history, but in 2026 it moved to June, at the Divi Carina Bay. When we checked in October 2026 the organizers had not said whether 2027 would return to April or stay in June, so watch the event's listing before you book around it.

What are the public holidays in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2027?

Besides the federal holidays, the territory keeps Three Kings Day on January 6, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Monday on March 25, 26 and 29, Transfer Day on March 31, Emancipation Day on July 3, Virgin Islands-Puerto Rico Friendship Day on October 11, Liberty Day on November 1 and Christmas Second Day on December 26. Banks and government offices close, while most restaurants and tours stay open.

When is the best time to see the bioluminescent bay on St. Croix?

On dark nights, from about the last-quarter moon until two or three nights after the new moon, because a bright moon washes out the glow. Upcoming new moons include November 9 and December 8, 2026, and January 7, February 6 and March 8, 2027. Tours leave from Salt River Marina, so book ahead around new moons and holiday weeks.

When is sea turtle nesting season on St. Croix?

Leatherbacks nest at Sandy Point mostly from March to July, and the refuge beach is closed to the public from April through August. Hawksbills nest all year with a peak from about July to October, and green turtles peak from August to October. Keep beach lights off at night and never touch a marked nest.

Which month has the most events on St. Croix?

December. It brings the Garden of Lights, the Crucian Coconut Festival, the Christmas Boat Parade, Art Thursday, the Coquito Festival, the festival pageants and calypso shows, and from December 26 the Festival Village. February is the other busy month, with Agrifest over Presidents' Day weekend and the February Jump Up. For a quieter trip that still has a few events, try November or May.

Are the dates in this guide confirmed?

Dates the organizers or the government have published are given as fixed, and dates that follow the pattern of recent years are marked as expected. Event dates, times and prices change, especially for community events, so check each event's own page, linked in its chapter, before you book flights or plan a day around it.

Do I need a passport to go to events on St. Croix?

Not if you are a U.S. citizen flying from the mainland or Puerto Rico. St. Croix is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands, so the trip is domestic and a REAL ID or another TSA-accepted ID is enough. Bring a passport only if you plan to go on to the British Virgin Islands or another foreign island.
