Beaches

The short list, verified.

Start with the obvious: The Cerulean has its own private beach with direct water access, so every other beach on this list is optional. That said, St. Croix's sandy shorelines range from hike-in preserve bays, to a two-mile federal wildlife refuge, and to drive-right-onto-the-beach and park hot spots. Visiting these is half the reason to rent a Jeep.

One rule worth reading twice: Sandy Point, the island's famous endless beach, is a leatherback-turtle refuge with strict access — weekends only, 10 to 4, and completely closed April through August for nesting season. Time it right and it's astonishing.
